There Really Ought to be a Law

Your idea could become law!
In your work in the community, have you ever thought, “there really ought to be a law about…” or “a law would really help”? If so, your SPAC delegates would love to hear from you!

The most thoroughly researched submission will be recognized at the October GMM with an announcement and a prize! Submission due by 11:59pm on October 10th.

Every year, the State Public Affairs Committee (SPAC) delegates from 17 Junior Leagues in California meet to review all of the suggestions presented by members across the state. As a group, they decide which idea to sponsor as a piece of original legislation in California and work with legislators to turn the idea into law.

Let’s make 2016 the year that the winning idea comes from the Junior League of Pasadena!

Your contest entry can include ideas for new laws, a change in an existing law, or an idea that could be researched for further legislation. Please focus your entry on one of the following 5 issue areas:

Education
CalSPAC is committed to ensuring that all children and young adults receive educational opportunities that are developmentally appropriate, increase achievement, and lead to workplace marketability.

Family Support
CalSPAC is committed to advocating for programs and policies that promote the physical and emotional well-being of all families.

Health
CalSPAC is committed to advocating for better access to quality health care and prevention programs that will improve mental and physical health of our community members.

Human Trafficking
CalSPAC is committed to ending human trafficking in all its forms. CalSPAC supports policies and programs that stop human trafficking, advocate for victims, and educate the community at large.

Violence Prevention
CalSPAC is committed to addressing the impact of violence in our communities through prevention, intervention, and education.
